How It Works
Data Discovery Module in BCWipe (BCWipe Search) runs locally on your computer. You define what to search for, and BCWipe Search finds matching files and displays them in the results window. You can review the results and securely erase files you no longer need using BCWipe.
Your searches are saved in the search history, allowing you to review previous results or repeat a search later.
All search processing takes place locally. Your files and search index remain on your computer.
Local Indexing and Search
To speed up searches, BCWipe Search indexes files in the background. It extracts text from supported document formats, such as TXT, PDF, DOC, and XLS, including supported files stored inside ZIP archives. The indexed information is stored in an encrypted database on your computer.
The index is automatically updated when files are created, modified, or deleted. When you perform a search, BCWipe Search queries the existing index instead of scanning every file from scratch.
NOTE: After installation, BCWipe Search needs time to build its initial index. Search results may be incomplete until this process finishes.
