The three major components of BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise Server edition are:

  • BCWipeTotal WipeOut Management Console is a web-based interface that allows configuring company-wide wiping policies, executing and monitoring wiping tasks remotely, keeping account of all wiping activities as well as printing erasure reports for completed tasks.
  • BCWipeTotal WipeOut Configuration Wizard is a desktop application that is used to create bootable media (USB, CD/DVD or an EXE fileNEW!) which will host the BCWipe Total Wipeout wiping utility.
  • BCWipeTotal WipeOut Wiping Utility is a Linux-based application used for wiping drives on the physical level.

The article will describe the typical scenario of using the application, from installing the central management component to creating a bootable media, erasing a drive and generating a wiping report.

1. Install BCWipe Total WipeOut.

Download the setup file following the link received from Jetico Sales together with the license key. Double-click to start the installation process.

Click here to review a step-by-step guide to installing the software.

2. Launch BCWipe Total WipeOut Server Monitor.

Do so by selecting "Run BCWipe Total WipeOut Configuration Monitor now" at the final step of the installation process or later from Start --> BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise --> BCWipe Total WipeOut server monitor.

3. Open Management Console in a browser

In BCWipe Total WipeOut Service Monitor click and wait for the "Start Console in a Web Browser" to become active, then click the link

4. Choose a password for the administrator account

When you open the console for the first time, you will need to create and confirm a password for the default "admin" account.

Click "Create and sign in" to continue. The Management section of the management console opens.

🗲HINT: BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise supports role-based management. You will later have the option to add more user accounts with customizable levels of access.

5. (Optional) Registration

By default, BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise will install a trial version using the embedded demo license.

🗲HINT: Trial version of BCWipeTotal WipeOut Enterprise allows wiping up to 15 drives, however the selection of wiping schemes is limited to the 1-pass zero wiping scheme.

In case you already have a license key received from the Jetico team, click Manage Licenses at the management console's dashboard. You will be redirected to the Administration section of the management console, Licenses tab. To add an existing license, click Activate license.

Highlight the license text by keeping Shift button pressed and moving mouse cursor from the beginning of license data block (starting with -----BEGIN LICENSE-----) to the end (continuing through -----END LICENSE-----). Press Ctrl and C buttons simultaneously - this puts the license data into clipboard.

Use Ctrl + V to paste the copied license text into the Activate License dialog box, then click Activate

This should add the number of wipes associated with your order to the Available wipes: count and unlock the remaining wiping schemes.

6. Select target device type and download Configuration Wizard

If you followed step 5, you will need to switch back from Administration to Management. Do so by clicking the corresponding tab at the right upper corner of the web console.

Scroll down to the Wipe a device section of the page.

If you are looking to wipe drives connected to a PC or a pre-2018 Intel Mac, click "Bootable USB, CD or EXE". This will download the archive containing the executable file for BCWipe Total WipeOut Configuration Wizard for Windows.

If you are looking to wipe drives connected to newer Apple devices, including T2 Mac or M1/M2 Mac  click "Bootable USB " on the right. This will download the dmg file containing the executable file for BCWipe Total WipeOut Configuration Wizard for macOS.

For the purpose of this tutorial we will continue with the option for PCs.

7. Launch BCWipe Total WipeOut Configuration Wizard

Extract the downloaded bcwipeflash.zip archive, open the folder and double-click iso_conf.exe to run it.

8. Select USB drive

For the purpose of this Quick Start Guide, we will move forward with the bootable USB option. If you are interested in learning more about the alternatives such as ISO / CD or an EXE file for active Windows endpoints, review this article: Windows: creating a bootable USB / CD / EXE

Plug in the USB drive you will be using with BCWipe Total WipeOut.

In the Configuration Wizard, click

Select the USB from the list of drives and click  .

🗲HINT: BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise Server Edition also supports drive erasure using a CD / ISO image. For the purpose of this tutorial we will continue with creating a bootable USB.

9. Choose connection type

If the target device can be connected to the local network, we recommend choosing the "Online mode only" option. This enables the capabilities of remote management. All the data associated  with the wiping task including the license count will be sent to the web console in real time

If it's unclear whether the target device can be connected to the local network or not, choose "Allow offline if online is unavailable". This option allows for greater flexibility. If the device does have connection to the server, you can still enjoy the remote management capabilities. Otherwise, the wiping process shall be controlled locally at the endpoint.

To enable wiping in offline mode, pre-load some wipes to the USB. To do so, adjust the amount in the "Wipes on USB" edit box to match the expected number of drives to be wiped offline.

Click   to proceed to the next step of the Configuration Wizard.

10. Choose mode of operation

When in Automatic mode, BCWipe Total WipeOut will erase all drives connected to the target endpoint after a 1 minute countdown.

When in Manual mode, a user selects drives to be wiped and initiates the wiping process manually.

11. Wi-Fi settings

Connecting the target computer to a network allows running BCWipe Total WipeOut in "Online" mode which enables the capabilities of remote management.

NOTE: No Internet connection is required, just the connectivity between the computer where BCWipe Total WipeOut Enterprise Server is running and the target endpoint. Air-gapped environments are fully supported.

Wired connection (including via Ethernet to USB adapters) will work reliably every time. Enable ￿🗹 Enable remote management over Wi-Fi to preconfigure Wi-Fi settings for cases when wired connection is not possible.

Use 🞊 Select a Wi-Fi network from the list, verify the password to configure BCWipe Total WipeOut to connect to one of the available networks. Select the network from the drop-down menu, enter the password and click Verify to validate the credentials automatically.

Or use 🞊 Enter the Wi-Fi details manually, no verification to enter the network ID and password manually, without validation.

12. Select a wiping policy

The Wiping policy drop-down menu loads the list of wiping policies created in the web console.

The Default policy features the wiping settings carefully selected by Jetico engineers to ensure the most effective results with minimal lifetime impact on each of the the drive types.

In this tutorial we will choose the Default Policy. Learn how to create a custom wiping policy here: Policy Management

With the demo license all wiping schemes are reset to the 1-pass-zero scheme. Purchase a full license to unlock the jetico-recommended schemes in Default policy.

13. Finish creating the USB

Review the selected settings at the Overview page of the Configuration Wizard, then click to initiate the bootable media creation process.

Once the bootable medium of choice is ready, you will see a confirmation window. Click Finish.

14. Boot target device with BCWipe Total WipeOut

To start BCWipe Total WipeOut wiping utility, configure the target device to boot from USB. Review our guides for Intel-based PCs and Macs

🗲HINT: Load into BIOS and change the boot sequence, so that USB boots first (otherwise force boot -> USB). Save new settings and leave BIOS.

Plug the USB in, power the device on and select the USB from the list of boot options.

15. Wipe the device

BCWipe Total Wipeout interface will be loaded.

If you chose Automatic mode at step 10, wiping will start after a 1 minute countdown erasing all connected drives.

If you chose Manual mode at step 10, you will need to select drives to be wiped and to initiate the wiping process manually. Depending on the connection type, this can be done either from the web console for the Online mode or locally at the endpoint if in Offline mode.

Create medium with Total Wipeout Utility

16. (Optional) Upload offline logs

In Online mode, all data associated with the wiping task will be sent to the web console in real time.

To view the log or print a wiping report for a wipe performed in Offline mode, however, the offline logs should first be uploaded to the database.

The offline log file in .json format is saved by default to the USB you're booting with. Plug the USB to any PC, open the management console in a web browser and select "Upload offline logs" in the dashboard.
